Have you been in an African safari before? That’s okay cz we will be able to guide you on your preferred option. There are different types of safaris for every kind of traveler but to curate your own dream African adventures, we need to state the not so obvious types of accommodation. Choosing your preference will help you know the kind of explorer you are and the best safari for you. There are two major types of the African safari accommodation: tented camp and game lodge. They each have their own perks and are prime spots for experiencing the natural beauty of Africa.
1. The tented Camp
The tented camp variety is likely to pop in your head at the mention of a safari. It is a classic option where all the camps structures are made of canvas, a temporary shelter. It is like camping in the bush but bigger and spacious. It comes with en-suite bathroom and sometimes a small terrace or jacuzzi/pool. They vary from utilitarian to luxury.2. The Game Lodge
Game lodges on the other hand are built like resorts with solid walls constructions. They vary immensely in size and number of rooms; therefore, their atmosphere and ambience may remind you of either a hotel or guesthouse. They are however still en-suite with a bathroom. This is the most flexible safari since you can always incorporate it with other safaris. If you are a lark then you are in luck since this safari starts at the earliest, around 5:30 am. You can book the hot air balloon to fly over the savannah for about an hour and experience sheer beauty of sunrise drive. It also gives you an opportunity to indulge in an amazing sunrise breakfast deep in the park. We would however recommend health insurance
Family safaris are very popular in Kenya. We have options that are geared towards families with younger children, so we can fully customize your experience to ensure that everybody has a great time. The lodges are friendly enough to offer family friendly activities and animal encounter like Giraffe Minor in Nairobi without the guilt of skipping game drives. The game drives can sometimes be long and require a decent amount of patience which is something to think about when deciding to bring your child on safari. To make the game drives a little interesting, we offer safari journals to them to help them check off each safari animal when you spot it.
The group tours can consist of individuals, small groups, and families, from 1-8 passengers max in a 4x4 cruiser. Price is the biggest factor to consider when thinking about this safari because its slightly cheaper than solo or private safaris. Individuals can join other ongoing safaris, it’s also a great way to meet new people however accommodation is not shared just transportation. Even though, the cheapest is not always the best the same as the most expensive does not necessarily mean it will be the best. The experience will be the same as every other safari since we maintain the same standards for all our safaris.
A lot of the game lodges and camps offer walking safaris. It is a great way to get up close and personal with the wildlife. If you are thinking about this kind of safari or guided, always invest in a good pair of binoculars and nice walking shoes. Animal spotting is so much better when you can zoom in on the details like the little birds that like to snack on the insects that sit atop the elephants and hippos. However, this are tips that you could borrow for any kind of safari.
Even though they can be costly, you have the driver guide entirely to yourself so you are free to stop and go as you please. The safari is entirely dependent on your schedule therefore you get to experience nature at your own pace. Solo trips are just as rich, if not richer, without anyone to distract you from the magic of the wildlife.
This is the most popular safari in Kenya where you get to go for the game drive with professional driver guides. He is well conversant with the parks and quite knowledgeable on the wildlife of the area, culture and the people. Since we are close to the equator, the sun sets quite early relative to some countries so you must make most of the daylight hours. If you are a safari enthusiast, then we will recommend going for an early morning and a late evening game drives or a full day game drive. The best time to see the nocturnal animals is during the early morning game drives so you can leave your lodge at around 5:30am for an epic day. The driver guides you all through the safari, helping you executing your plans.
Most travelers hate the long drives to the parks/ reserves from Nairobi therefore they opt for the quickest way to get to the parks/ reserves which is by Air. It makes sense anyway since they could be seriously tired or jet lagged. Fly-in safaris are best way to see the peaceful savannas from an aerial view with the animals graceful co-habiting.
